Therapy Methods

Dr Collins has extensive knowledge of all medications used in psychiatry, including some not licensed in the UK but used in other countries such as America. He has experience with older drugs which in some instances may retain some benefits over more recently introduced ones.

Dr Collins trained in EMDR and has used it ever since for appropriate problems such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), pathological grief and bereavement reactions, some phobias, and as a psychotherapeutic tool to help where trauma issues from the past, not ‘dramatic’ enough to earn the label of PTSD, are nevertheless blocking therapeutic progress.

Dr Collins has trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and is therefore aware of when it is indicated and what it involves. He prefers to refer on to a specialist CBT therapist, usually a psychologist, for this treatment.

Other specialist therapies which Dr Collins may prescribe to be delivered by a colleague with special expertise include:

  • Cognitive Analytical Therapy (CAT)
  • Psychoanalytical Psychotherapy
  • Psychosynthesis Psychotherapy
  • Integrative Psychotherapy
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Neurolinguistic Programming
  • Addictions Counselling (Chemical and Behavioural)
  • Couples Counselling
  • Family Therapy
  • Group Therapy
  • Life Coaching
